On Piano Tuning TV, I am going to talk about a variety of pertinent topics. Who needs education about piano tuning? Short answer is everyone who cares. But lets face it, its not like understanding why the roof is leaking or how the hot water heater broke down.
So who should care? Musicians – amateur and professional alike, music listeners and of course piano tuners – technicians. The problem with tuning is that when push come to shove, the presumably “most educated and qualified” amongst us simply just have it dead wrong. It is ironic that professional musicians and instrumentalist hinge their understanding on what I would call several “piano tuning myths“.
A few types of education I will cover are as follows.
- Dispelling piano tuning myths and old wife’s tales.
- Basic piano owner and consumer education such as the need for regular piano maintenance.
- An in depth examination of just what piano tuning is from the lay and the tuners perspective.
- More about technology and how piano tuning practices have changed over the past 25 years.
- A more detailed perspective on musical practice and aesthetics as it pertains to keyboard/piano tuning through the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
